A Corner of Contentment

My mind rests on you,

your hand on my heart.

Your warmth is my blanket;

your presence my timeline.

Don't look outside the window,

don't draw the curtains back.

Keep this small world

undisturbed and perfectly intact.

The lifelines in your palm can be followed

in tiny detail through half closed eyes;

a map to read at bedtime;

a better road to follow.

Days may be metallic cold

and rusty slow,

but I have this to hold,

a corner of contentment

to keep me whole.
