Thoughts of You

Pushing at my brain,

wanting to project themselves

on to any surface,

the kitchen top,

my empty plate,

the pillow

resting peacefully next to me at night,

every night.

Everything else,

all thought,

all activity,

embraces you,

takes you on,

accepts you as part of me

providing outlets for your persistence,

enabling you

to make yourself known to me.

Distance makes the heart grow

but the brain forget,

images once captured

become faded,

camouflaged within cortex

and cerebral tissue.

Dreams convey hidden images,

but only for a few hours.

After a while images are irrelevant,

love surpasses sight,

transcends into its own realm.

It is here where our love exists,

a reciprocal essence

evanescent as it may seem,

everlasting it will always be.
