If You Dare Love

If you dare love, for pity's sake

Don't blind the eyes, or cause mistake

Nor prove so true that opened mind

Cannot find joys it left behind.

No, love should hold within each breast,

A moment that survives the test.

And grows each day, just like the tree

Stands strong for all the world to see.

Let not the years or tempests greet

The whiles of passions own defeat.

But, steadfast meet each passing year

With hope, with smiles, that outweighs fear.
