The Poetry of Jemma Hill
Profile
I am 19 years old, and have been writing since I can remember. I left school at 16, disillusioned with the school system and the lack of support for those with unconventional ambitions, and to give myself more time to write. I wound up working full time in retail with even less time to write than before!
I live with my father and younger sister, who I am inseperable from, and who remains the source of inspiration for much of my writing, as I remain a critic for hers. My mother, brother and step-father recently bought a house in Truro in the UK, and will be moving there shortly. Throughout my writing, I have switched between prose and poetry quite regularly.
More recently I have been diagnosed with epilepsy, following a long diagnosis during which I was unable to work. This made me take another look at my writing, and the little I had been doing. Determined to achieve something, I began a discipline to write at least four lines of poetry each night before I went to sleep. From this came Read, In My Head, and a number of other poems. I also renewed interest in the books I am writing, aimed at children aged nine and above.
My other hobbies include reading and singing. My sister and I have also written several songs, some of which have been recorded.
