Anemone Tale

Cherubim, born a bastard-child, encased

In a heavy casket. He was then placed

Under the cold stare of Persephone by

Great Aphrodite. He was set to lie.

Yet envied brood spawn’d ‘tween the Goddesses.

Enticed by his astral guise, the cold and

Callous one fell swiftly entranced and planned

To keep her gaze upon him and refused

To impart him away. Mighty Zeus mused

On this matter, and resolved it thusly:

Four full moons did Adonis spend with Kind

Aphrodite (wooed him with Helene). Mind

On Her, he spent four full moons with Horrid

Persephone, with her, and a torrid

Affair was shared in her stringent Kingdom.

The other four were spent with whomever

He desir’d, and he favoured Love’s clever

Heart, and stayed the weeks with Her. But Ares

Grew green and sent upon the stunted breeze,

A wild hog to slay his coveted foe.

Adonis fell on the tusks of the boar,

And Aphrodite touched his blood with sore

Regret, and sprinkled nectar on’t. There

Grew the blood-red blossom, and she did err

Her past, unfaithful Love, and was punished.
